PURE REFLECTION

This shader does nothing except reflections. Using it as a layered shader allows you to add reflections to shaders that don’t normally support them (anisotropic, plastic - even matte, if you want!). It also allows for finer control over the strength of reflection than can be obtained using Caligari Phong, Caligari Metal, or Glass.

PURE FRESNEL REFLECTION

Like Pure Reflection, this does nothing except calculate reflections, only with this shader, it uses Fresnel reflections (that vary in intensity depending on the angle of view). This allows you to add Fresnel reflection effects to shaders that don’t normally support them.

RING SYSTEM

The Ring System shader in action.

A still from an animation of a Saturn type planet.

Ring System is a transparency shader which creates animated rings on flat planes, as seen in the sample image. The effect includes the overall ring structures, and particles within the rings. Rotation is controllable with no need for keyframing, and you can add spiralling into the rings for a wider range of effects.

The effect can be used for more than just planetary ring systems, eg for whirlpools, black holes, etc.

RUSTY METAL

A simple 2 part shader, including colour and reflectance, this allows you to create metal with rust patches, amongst many other effects.

TG ENV MAP REFLECT FREE

TG Env Map Reflect Free uses an image as an environment map, to produce the appearance of reflections where there is nothing reflected from the 3D scene.

The comparison image shows how the in-built environment map shader “mixes” the environment map reflection and real reflections together. Notice how on the left sphere, the landscape is still visible in the checkerboard reflection.

TG Env Map Reflect comparison image.

tS Env Map shader on the left, and TG Env Map Reflect on the right.

The right-hand sphere, using TG Env Map Reflect, shows an accurate reflection of the checkerboard object, without any “blending” of the environment map reflection, which only appears where there is no scene object to reflect.

TG ENV MAP TRANSMIT FREE

TG Env Map Transmit gives a glassy look without a surrounding environment.

TG Env Map Transmit Free, using the “forest” image from the tS5 texture library..

TG Env Map Transmit Free uses an image as an environment map, but as well as creating reflections, it also does refraction.

Note that raytracing has to be enabled in order to get a “double sided” look to the glass, so the main use for this shader is to give a glassy look to an object which doesn’t have a surrounding environment.

The shader will accurately show reflections and refraction of any scene objects, only using the environment map image when there is no “real” reflection or refraction.
