TG Toon Pack is a collection of 8 ShaderLab shaders. The variations on each shader are with and without noise, with and without specular highlights, etc, allowing you to get the effects you want without dealing with extra processing and parameters. This takes the final count to 23 shaders. A comprehensive HTML help file details every shader, and where suitable, the shaders also come with a collection of Presets. Requirements: trueSpace 4.3, trueSpace 5.x, trueSpace 6.x, or gameSpace
with ShaderLab 2.4 installed.
Background Info: This pack focuses on providing cartoon, cel, and other non-photorealistic rendering effects, both in handling surface textures (the Reflectance channel shaders can even “toon” a procedural colour shader!) and in handling lighting. A description of each of the major groups of shaders is given below: 1) TG Toon 3Tone Divides the lighting into shadowed, lit and highlight, with shadows taking on an ink colour, lit taking on the colour from the colour shader (with no effect from the lighting), and highlights taking on a highlight colour. 2) TG Toon Reflectance Breaks the lighting up into brightness steps, to give solid banding, and breaks the colour up into colour steps, both effects controllable separately. This makes it possible to “toon” a procedural colour shader, at the same time as “tooning” the lighting effects. 3) TG Toon Sketch This has all the processing of TG Toon Reflectance, but replaces the brightness with a sketching effect. The effect is derived from a texture map, several of which are provided in the installation, along with presets that use them, which gives an infinite range of possible results. The sketching effect is not applied as a straight colour texture, but rather “darkens” the underlying colours, in a cumulative way, as the texture is layered on top of itself repeatedly for each band of brightness. Comes with a range of options for the underlying colour to be used, and control over how the sketching image is layered (so that a single texture map can give rise to a wide range of results!). 4) TG Toon Texture Map Gives the brightness and colour steps processing as in TG Toon Reflectance, but since it’s a colour shader, works directly on a texture map, so you can apply a reflectance shader of your choice to go along with the “tooned” texture map. Adds to that processing by the option to have a simple blur effect on the image too. 5) TG Toon Colouring Simple A colour shader, that actually brings out the 3D shape of the object. Creates a gradient fill effect between 2 colours, shading the object based on the geometry. Quick simple and effective to use, and can also be used to bring out the shape of an object entirely without lighting! 6) TG Virtual Light Colour A complete port of TG Virtual Light into the colour channel. 7) TG Image Lookup Noise Uses an image as a noise lookup table, and also breaks the noise into steps. Not as strictly “toon” as the other shaders, can give some very unusual results. Interestingly, is also particularly good for some times of stone. 8) TG Texture Map Projected No fancy processing, but projects a texture map based on the final rendered image rather than world, object or UV space. Has a variety of uses, such as mutli-pass processing to layer shaders (you can now have a rough surface rendered in one pass, and add a smooth polish over the top of it as if it has a clear layer of lacquer, for example), an easy and straightforward way to bake textures onto an object (but only when rendered from the exact same view of course), as a means of adding some unusual processing to an image, etc. Variations: In general, the variations are with and without noise; the noise or texture based on UV / Object / World space, or based on projected from final rendered image space; with or without specular highlights; and with hard (solid) or conventional specular highlights.
