About Me

So you were one of those inquisitive people who read the sections at the bottom of each image in The Gallery, and now here you are wanting to know a little about myself? Well, I can oblige you on that!

My name is Tom Grimes, born in 1967 in Aberdeen, North East Scotland. I grew-up in Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, gained a degree in Psychology from Aberdeen University, then moved to Derby in England and worked at Rolls-Royce as an analyst/programmer on IBM mainframes.

In 1995 I worked for a while as a musician, something I’d always wanted to try, playing guitar in local bands, and writing and recording my own music on guitar and synthesizer. This turned out not to be a financially viable proposition (superstardom was not to be!), so I returned to work as an analyst / programmer in 1997.

In early 1999, I began working in 3D graphics and web design, areas which mix computing, psychology and technology with creativity, artistry and imagination.

In 2001, I returned to Scotland and was glad to be back with my family there for a while, and during that time I began work for Caligari, the company whose software I had been using since starting in 3D. In 2003 I moved once more, this time to America.

Main Power

I now live in Texas, with my wife and son, while my daughter lives in Derby. Both my son and daughter like Pokemon (the TV series, the movies, the games, the toys....!), and both love computer games too!

I like reading, Iain Banks and Philip K. Dick are my two of my favourite authors. I also enjoy creative writing, and even finished a novel, but never submitted it for publication.

I also enjoy a wide variety of music, with some favourites being Curve, Garbage, Tom Petty, Del Amitri, Catatonia, Mike Oldfield, Staind, and many many more. I’ve always liked playing computer games, which means work AND play happen on the computer. That can't be healthy surely :)

You'll find many of those things, from computer games to music to reading, affect and influence my artwork.

Having read, thought and studied much about religion and philosophy from my teenage years onward, I'm glad to have found salvation in Christ.

And I think you’ll agree that’s more than enough information about me to satisfy even the most avid curiosity!
