Perfect Day
Honourable Mention
In Caligari's November 2000 Image Contest
The North Sea platform supply vessel the Far Service, just off the coast
of North East Scotland, on an all-too-rare day of perfect weather.
Technical Details
The Far Service is a real ship, owned
by Farstad and working out of the North Sea port of Peterhead. Some
good exterior and interior photos of the ship can be found at
this link.
The ship mesh is available
here at TurboSquid, without the name
and logo, but including the cargo.
The landscape in the background was modelled
in tS, and textured using shaders I wrote myself, TG Slope Advanced
and TG Virtual Light.
The sea was textured using the Crumple
displacement shader, while texture maps were created for the wake and
the TG Colour Reflectance shader used to give the white foam different
reflectance settings from the blue water.
The lighting used a ring of local lights with shadowmapped shadows to
act as the ambient daylight, with an array of 4 local lights with raytraced
shadows acting as the direct sunlight.
Software used was trueSpace4.3.
