Software Used : trueSpace 5 This is an image of the reception office at the Ubik Corporation, in a scene inspired by Philip K. Dick’s novel “Ubik". One of the themes in the novel is the regression of objects, such as TV sets and fridges, from the futuristic back into 1960’s or 1950’s products, and Ubik (taken from “ubiquitous”, meaning “omni-present”) is a product which reverses this regression. I designed the Ubik logo (seen as a sign on the wall) to make it look old-fashioned, and created the office to look modern, to mimic the juxtaposition of the different times reflected in the novel. This also gives the Ubik logo the feel of the time when the novel was written! This image was hosted on the Philip K Dick site, which recently moved from it's old location at www.philipkdick.com to the new www.philipkdickfans.com - you can find my image, an older version in fact, at http://www.philipkdickfans.com/artwork/ubik_office.htm. It's interesting to see more and more PKD novels turned into movies, everything from the classic Blade Runner through to the most recent movie, Paycheck. I hope this interest in the novels continues, and we see even more in future. Originally a trueSpace4.3 scene, this was reworked in trueSpace5. Radiosity was dropped in favor of using IBL lights, and some objects were remodeled in tS5 using NURBS.
